Range Rover AC stopped cooling, is a compressor really the problem?
#1
My Range Rover Sport has about a hundred and five thousand kilometres, and last week the AC went from cold to warm in one afternoon. There is also a soft clicking sound from the engine bay when I switch it on. I live in Sharjah and work near Industrial Area 10, so the car sits in the sun all day and I need the AC from the first minute. A garage checked it and said the compressor is finished and needs a replacement. Then he gave me a price that made me go quiet. My brother says it could be just a clutch or a relay, and that I should not pay for a whole compressor until someone tests it. A friend says if the compressor is truly broken, the pipes must be flushed or the new one will fail too. I looked online for a Range Rover AC compressor replacement in Industrial Area 10, but every page said the same thing, so I still do not know what a proper job includes. Does a good shop test the pressure and the clutch before they call the compressor dead? Should they change the dryer and flush the system at the same time? Is an original part worth the extra money, or is a good aftermarket one fine? Does the new part come with a written warranty? How long does the job take, and what should it cost on a Range Rover? Is it safe to drive with the AC off in the meantime? If you replaced a compressor, please tell me what the problem was, what you paid, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most.
