Porsche 911 PDK feels jerky at low speed, bad clutch or just software?
#1
Fair warning, I am new to Porsche and a bit lost, so please be kind. I picked up a 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera with the PDK gearbox about five months ago, and I mostly use it for weekend drives. Lately I have noticed that in slow traffic, when the car crawls between first and second gear, it gives a small shudder, like it is not sure which gear it wants. Sometimes when I pull away from a stop there is also a short delay, then a little push forward. On the highway everything feels smooth and fast, so I almost forget about it. The previous owner told me PDK is just built that way at low speed, but my friend who owns a Cayman says his never did that. I did not know if I should believe either of them. So I spent a couple of evenings reading about how a dual clutch gearbox works, and I opened a page about Porsche cars on a Sharjah website that explained the two clutches, the oil and the control unit in simple words. I learned that the gearbox oil and filter have a service time, and that some shudders can come from old oil or a needed software update, not always a broken clutch. That made me feel a little calmer. A colleague who loves German cars said I should look for Premium Porsche PDK gearbox repair in Sharjah before the shudder turns into something worse, but he also said not every garage knows these gearboxes well. That worries me, because I would never want someone to learn on my car. So here are my questions. Is a small shudder at low speed normal for PDK, or is it an early sign of clutch wear? Should I try a gearbox oil and filter service first, and how often do owners usually do it? Can a garage check the clutch condition with a scan tool, and should they show me the readings on paper? Also, how long does a gearbox job normally take, and is a warranty after the repair common? If you had the same shudder on your 911, Cayman or Panamera, please tell me what fixed it and about how much you paid. Thank you.
