Container shipment shifted during transit, would dunnage bags have saved us? - billyhenderson - 10-03-2026 We shipped a 40ft container from Jebel Ali to Saudi last month and when it arrived the load had shifted badly, crates leaning against each other and one pallet actually tipped over. Nothing broke thankfully but it cost us two extra hours of labour just to sort it out before customs would let us proceed. Our loading guy used straps and some old timber bracing but clearly it was not enough. Someone suggested we should be using air bags for the void spaces instead of trying to wedge wood everywhere. I have never used them before so I am not sure how they work exactly. Do you inflate them after the container is loaded and then they just hold everything tight? And are they reusable or one time use only? I saw a paper dunnage bag 900x1800mm size which seems suited for container gaps but I have no idea if that is the standard size or if I need different ones depending on the void. Would appreciate any advice from people who ship regularly and have solved this problem already. |
